Polar Mesa is situated in Grand County, Utah, on the north flank of the La Sal Mountains and is bounded by the Dolores River on the south and Beaver Creek on the east. The uranium-bearing Salt Wash member of the Morrison formation is exposed on the mesa sides and in part on the top. The Brushy Basin member of the Morrison formation overlies the Salt Wash. Below the Salt Wash, the Summerville and Entrada formations are exposed in descending order around the steep sides of the mesa. Since mining began in 1918, production on Polar Mesa has been an estimated 25,000 tons of ore averaging about 0.30% U3O8.
