ABSTRACT: A comparison of lithologic and gamma-ray logs of pairs of closely spaced core and non-core holes on Cove Mesa, Navajo Indian Reservation, Apache County, northeastern Arizona in the spring of 1951 shows that careful drilling, accurate depth determinations, and detailed logging are essential if the logs are to be used for correlation purposes. Gamma-ray logs permit differentiation between sandstone and mudstone, and with proper interpretations, depths and thicknesses may be determined. Gamma-ray corrected lithologic logs of core holes are best for correlation purposes, though gamma-ray ...
