Commercial uranium deposits in the White Canyon mining district, San Juan County, Utah, and the Monument Valley mining district, San Juan County, Utah, Navajo and Apache Counties, Arizona, occur along the basal contact of the Shinarump member of the Chinle formation of late Triassic age where it fills erosional troughs cut into underlying formations. These ore bodies are classic examples of deposition controlled by paleotopography.
