The northeastern Paradox basin is characterized by a series of salt cored anticlines (salt walls) trending NW-SE. The crestal areas of the salt cored anticlines are breached and cut by faults, forming downthrown valleys, created by the subsidence of the crestal overburden. There has been a prolonged debate on the causative mechanism of subsidence of the anticline crests.
