Characterization and Simulation of the Shading Induced Hot Spot Reliability Problem in Silicon Photovoltaic Solar Modules

The formation of a damaging hot spot on a solar cell in a non-uniformly illuminated solar photovoltaic module was characterized and simulated. Hot spot power is the product of reverse bias voltage and current through the hot spot region, and is predominantly dissipated as heat.
