Characterization of rain induced leaf vibrations

The characterization of droplet impact induced vibrations of three different leaf species was conducted. To do this, linear regression models were fit to experimental data, obtained from the measurement of physical characteristics of the leaves and vibration videos that were image processed with the use of the MATLAB software. The study found that the vibrations experienced by the leaves depended on seven leaf variables: the leaf’s density, the leaf’s specific area, its tilt angle, leaf area, leaf thickness, mass of the dried leaf and leaf’s initial angle.
