Statement of the Problem: Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) are a leading preventable cause of death in the United States. Despite being preventable, these infections negatively affect one out of every 25 hospitalized patients and are associated with an economic burden of more than $40 billion each year. To combat these infections, hospitals are implementing prevention strategies including isolation and decolonization of patients.
