dc.descriptionAnimal characteristics: Identification: The chest, face, and undersides of the horned puffin are white. Its back and neck are black, and the bill is orange with a red tip. The puffin's eyes are surrounded with black 'horns,' and there is a fleshy horn above the eyes. ; Habitat: Open ocean, sea cliffs, rocky islets ; Diet: Carnivore: fish, marine invertebrates ; Reproduction: Puffins are colonial breeders. The female lays a single egg in a rock crevice or hole. Both sexes incubate the egg for 40 days and care for the chick after it hatches. The chick is independent at 38-44 days of age. ; Behavior: Although the puffin is rather awkward on land, it is a very good swimmer. It uses its wings to 'fly' underwater. ; Status: No special status
