Abstract

A self-described "tree-hugger and canoe freak" has won the world's richest cash award for his work establishing the field of environmental ethics. Rolston found that he had to fight both theology and science to love nature. He persuades philosophers using the language of intrinsic value in nature. He persuades the secular speaking of respect for nature, and the theologians speaking of sacred creation.
