Effects of a synbiotic diet on the structure and strength of cortical bone in aging male mice

This study aims to assess the effects of a synbiotic (prebiotic+probiotic) diet on the structure and strength of cortical bone in aging male mice. Mice were divided into three groups: 10-mo-old fed the control diet (BSL), 10-mo-old fed the control diet for 4 months (CON), and 10-mo-old fed the control diet enhanced with synbiotics for 4 months (SYN). Bone structure was evaluated at three shaft regions of interest (ROIs) for the femur and tibia using micro-computed tomography (μCT).
