Abstract

The artist's statement: Lisa Marie was raised by wolves ... raised by a jazz trumpet player and a violinist in the rural Midwest. She experienced a "normal" childhood with exploration, horseback riding, sports, and cartwheels, with the addition of piano and ballet lessons and made-up dances to hundreds of show tunes. A favorite pastime was reading, and rereading, favorite stories like Charlotte's Web. (That spider was one heck of a designer.) She enjoyed drawing the characters from the stories, as well as all of her many pets. Visits to her home from characters like Dizzy Gillespie and Duke Ellington rounded out the mix. She later spent years in Seattle and Alaska, exploring the outdoors, designing kitchens, and catering events like the Ballard Jazz Festival. Charmed as life was, she lacked a clear purpose, using her talents hither and yon, until channeling them into a design career. Her love of music still figures into the designing scheme, hence the interest of the marriage of the two. "My best work combines conceptual ideas and the appropriate digital medium to render them into. I enjoy creating music-related pieces like concert posters and album covers, but also environmental themes carry the mix. My photo montages were commented on as being strong by the review board, and collage and illustration techniques. I feel my strongest suit is illustration mixed with conceptual work."
